Handwritten Wines

Handwritten 2012 Pinot Noir

There is an incredible focus in this wine that highlights the best red fruits that pinots are known for: bright bing cherry and freshly picked strawberries ooze out of the glass. While there is a light and airy quality to the body of the wine, the tannins are firm yet supple and the wine finish ultra smooth and easy. The legendary 'sea smoke' of fog off the Pacific Ocean maintains a relatively cool growing condition in the East-West oriented valley and provides fascinating background notes of smoke and earthy spice. This is the perfect 'all purpose' wine with versatility at the dining room table and the ability to be enjoyed on its own.

Harvest & Tasting Notes:

The stunning Sta. Rita Hills appellation had a lovely year in 2012. Slightly cooler than usual, the fruit that makes up our Handwritten Pinot Noir benefited from long hang times, allowing us to harvest a beautifully ripened crop of pretty, tiny clusters. Flavors of black plum, fresh fig, blackberry and ripe blueberry mingle on the palate with pleasant acidity and smooth tannins. This vineyard may be a long way from the Napa Valley, but the results are simply too exceptional to not make the trip.
